Coloring Line Art Using Adobe Photoshop

This is another project of ours for our course subject Multimedia Production with Laboratory. No copyright infringement intended for the owner of the line art. :)

Progress 0:
I downloaded some Little Mermaid line art from Google images

----

Progress 1:
Opening the jpeg in Adobe, I set the resolution to 300 and then click on the levels (ctrl l) to adjust the strength of the lines. I also made sure that the lines are solid, so that when I use the Magic Wand Tool (W), together with the Paint Bucket Tool (G) or the Brush Tool (B), the color won't leak to the other parts.

----

Progress 2:
Using the Magic Wand Tool (W), I selected each part which has the same color.
Then, using the Brush Tool (B), I colored those parts. You can also use the Paint Bucket Tool (G).
Continue the process with the other parts.

---

Progress 3:
As you look at the hair, I selected the outline using again the Magic Wand Tool, then colored the hair outline with a darker shade of red. Continue the process with the other parts. (Ex. As for the pink parts, color the outline with a darker shade of pink)
As for the face, adjust the Brush Tool's Size, Opacity, and Flow to create desired amount of brush for the light and shadow effects.

---

Progress 4:
Before I continued the process in Progress 3 for the other parts, I did some "chroma", setting the background to green. This green background can help not to leak some color when you decide to change the color of the background afterwards.
Although, this optional and you can decide what color to use, and the best choice is a color that your subject for coloring does not have.
After that, I just continued repeating the process in Progress 3 for the other parts.

Note: You can zoom out your image (Ctrl + / Ctrl -) from time to time so that you can check if you're applying the highlights and shadows right.

---

Progress 5:
Using again the Magic Wand Tool, I selected the green background,
and using the Paint Bucket Tool and a White foreground color, I changed the green background to white,
so I can paint the background with the colors I desire. :)

Tadaaa! It's Done!

...And then I just played the background a little more. :D

Thank you for reading! God bless! :)
